If you live in Apopka and need the help of a
Central Florida Criminal Defense Lawyer... We Can Help You
State civil cases are typically filed with the Court in the county in which one of the parties lives. However, criminal cases are not filed with a particular Court based on where a person lives. Criminal law cases are typically filed and tried in the venue, that is, in the county, in which the criminal offense was allegedly committed.
There are cases, however, in which the prosecution does not know the precise physical location where the criminal offense was allegedly committed.

Pursuant to the Florida Constitution and to Florida Statute, in those types of cases, the person may be charged in two or more counties conjunctively. Then, the acused would have the "privilege" of electing in which of those counties he or she wants the trial to be held and would then present his or her
criminal defense in the county selected.

Some neighborhoods in Apopka are located in Seminole County, Florida. But the majority of Apopka is in Orange County. So, if a person is accused of a crime that was allegedly committed in Apopka, the state criminal case would typically be filed with the Court in Orange County and the person, with the aid of their criminal defense lawyer, would defend against the allegations there.

This would likely be the case even if the person actually lived in another county or another state. So the fact that a person lives in Apopka, or anywhere else for that matter, is irrevelant to where a criminal case will typically be filed and tried.

This applies to adult misdemeanor and felony criminal cases and to
juvenile delinquency or juvenile defense cases as well.

The City of Apopka is named after Lake Apopka, the third largest lake in Florida. Lake Apopka, in turn, was named after the Indians who previously inhabitated the Apopka area a couple hundred years ago. However, the origin of the Apopka name itself is unclear.

Some say that the Apopka name was shortened from Indian words "aha" (meaning potato) and "papka" (meaning eating place). Others say that the Apopka name came from the Indian word "tsalopopkohatchee" (meaning catfish-eating creek) and that Apopka had originally been thus named. Then, when the Apopka name was shortened to Ahapapka, the translation became that of "potatoes."

Although the origin of the Apopka name is unclear, we do know that Apopka was incorporated in 1882 as Apopka City and that five years later the name was shortened to Apopka. Not long after, Apopka was dubbed "Fern City" but the introduction of other tropical flowers led to a change in Apopka's nickname to "Indoor Foliage Capital of the World.”

Apopka is the second largest city in Orange County and today, more than thirty eight thousand call Apopka home.
