If you reside in Deland and need the assistance of a Central Florida
family law attorney or divorce lawyer... We Can Help You
Divorce, child support, child custody, and other family law related cases are usually filed in the county where both parties reside. As you know, Deland is located in Volusia County, Florida. Therefore, if you and your spouse reside in Deland, your Deland divorce, alimony, child custody, modification, visitation, child support, relocation, juvenile dependency, or other family law related case, would usually be filed with the Court in Volusia County.
If you reside in Deland and the other party resides in another city located in Volusia County, like in the above examples, your Deland family law related case would usually still be filed with the Court in Volusia County.

But if you reside in Deland and the other party resides in a city outside Volusia County, your Deland
divorce or other family law related case would not necessarily have to be filed with the Court in Volusia County, but could nevertheless be filed with the Court in Volusia County.

Similarly, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you live with the other parent in Deland, your Deland child custody, modification, child support, paternity, visitation, relocation, juvenile dependency, or other type of family law case, would typically be filed with the Court in Volusia County.

However, as noted above, it is not the city of residence but the county of residence which determines with what Court a divorce or other type of
family law case should be filed. And naturally, the marital status of the parties is not a relevant factor for purposes of determining with what Court a family law case should be filed.

The City of Deland is named after its founder Henry Deland. In March of 1876, Deland, who lived in New York and had made a fortune in the baking soda business, went to visit some relatives in South Carolina. After Deland arrived in South Carolina, Deland's brother-in-law, who had recently purchased some land in Florida, convinced Deland to travel with him to Florida to see the land.

Shortly thereafter, Deland and his brother-in-law traveled into the area that later would become known as Deland. Deland was so impressed with the area that by the end of the day, Deland himself had purchased 159 acres. On his visit, Deland met with several of the settlers in the area and saw the great potential for development.

When Deland returned in October, Deland purchased more land and met with the settlers again. Deland shared with them his vision of a town based on culture and education and donated land and funds to further its development.

Then, in December, Deland again returned to the area and once again met with the settlers. At that meeting in 1876, Deland and the settlers voted to name their community "Deland."
