Immigration cases can be very complex. Immigration cases involve regulations, statutes, agency interpretations of regulations and statutes, case decisions by the BIA, and case decisions by Federal Courts. And most of the time, there is much at stake.

Maybe it would not be safe to return to your country right now due to an ongoing armed conflict or a natural disaster and you are in need of Temporary Protected Status to continue to live in Orange City for a while. Or maybe you are in need of other immigration relief.

Perhaps you have encountered some obstacles that may affect your legal permanent residence / green card even though you have lived in Orange City for some time.

Or perhaps you are in need of political asylum because you were harmed in your country by the government or by a group the government could not or would not control.
As you may know, if an individual who resides in Orange City would like to file a civil case, he or she would likely do so in Volusia County because Orange City is, of course, located in Volusia County. Similarly, a criminal case would also likely be filed in Volusia County if the alleged crime took place in Orange City.

But, there is no similar rule regarding where a deportation case will be heard. In Immigration Court, wherever the government files the charges, that is where the
deportation case is heard. This can potentially cause unanticipated problems.

For instance, if someone who resides in Orange City is pulled over for speeding and the immigration authorities later take custody of the person, immigration can move them to a detention facility in California, Texas, or anywhere in the United States, and file the case there.

We would like the impact of your immigration case on your life as well as your family members to be a positive one.
The first known permanent settlers in the Orange City area were Louis and Mary Ann Thursby. The Thursby's moved to the Blue Springs / Orange City area in the early 1850's after they purchased a cabin on 133 acres from a nurseryman who spent the winters with his family in the Orange City area and the rest of the year in New York.

But Orange City was not founded until 1874 when Dr. Seth French and a group of settlers from Wisconsin came to the area. Dr. French and his group purchased a few thousand acres of land in the Orange City area and established the "Wisconsin Settlement." Some years later, Dr. French was appointed Florida's first Commissioner of Immigration.

The Orange City area settlement became well established; in 1876 some of the women began a book exchange that would become the Orange City Library, in 1877 the residents organized the Orange City Methodist Church, and by 1878 Orange City had founded the first public school in Volusia County.

Shortly thereafter, Orange City was named for the thousands of acres of orange groves planted in and around the city and Orange City was incorporated in 1882. Today, Orange City has a population of over ten thousand.
