If you live in Sanford and need the help of a Sanford
divorce lawyer or family law attorney... We Can Help You
Divorce, child custody, child support, and other family law cases are typically filed with the Court in the county in which the parties reside. Sanford is, of course, located in Seminole County, Florida. Therefore, if you are married and you and your spouse live in Sanford, your Sanford divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, visitation, relocation, modification, juvenile dependency, or other family law case, would typically be filed with the Seminole County Court.
If you reside in Sanford and the other party resides in another city located in Seminole County, like in the above examples, your Sanford family law related case would usually still be filed with the Court in Seminole County.

But if you reside in Sanford and the other party resides in a city outside Seminole County, your Sanford
divorce or other family law related case would not necessarily have to be filed with the Seminole County Court, but could nevertheless be filed with the Seminole County Court.

Similarly, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you live with the other parent in Sanford, your Sanford child custody, child support, paternity, visitation, relocation, modification, juvenile dependency, or other type of family law case, would typically be filed with the Seminole County Court.

However, as noted above, it is not the city of residence but the county of residence which determines with what Court a divorce or other type of
family law case should be filed. And naturally, the marital status of the parties is not a relevant factor for purposes of determining with what Court a family law case should be filed.

The city of Sanford was founded by American diplomat, businessman, and lawyer, Henry Shelton Sanford. Sanford was a direct descendant of Thomas Welles, colonial governor of Connecticut.

Sanford began his work as a diplomat in 1847, at the ripe old age of 24, when he was appointed Secretary of the American Legation in St. Petersburg. Subsequently, Sanford held a number of other diplomatic posts including one in Frankfurt, Germany, and another in Paris, France. Then, in 1861, Sanford was appointed the United States Minister to Belgium. Sanford was President Lincoln's first diplomatic appointment. Sanford maintained this post until 1869.

In 1870, Sanford purchased the 23 square mile "Sanford Grant" and subsequently founded Sanford. In 1875, Sanford built two hotels, the Sanford House and the Monroe House. Shortly thereafter, in 1877, Sanford was incorporated as a city.

In 1913 the Florida Legislature established Seminole County with Sanford as the county seat. Today, Sanford has a population of over fifty three thousand residents.
