If you live in Winter Springs and need the help of a
Seminole County Criminal Defense Lawyer... We Can Help You
State civil cases are typically filed with the Court in the county in which one of the parties lives. However, criminal cases are not filed with a particular Court based on where a person lives. Criminal law cases are typically filed and tried in the venue, that is, in the county, in which the criminal offense was allegedly committed.
There are cases, however, in which the prosecution does not know the precise physical location where the criminal offense was allegedly committed.

Pursuant to the Florida Constitution and to Florida Statute, in those types of cases, the person may be charged in two or more counties conjunctively. Then, the acused would have the "privilege" of electing in which of those counties he or she wants the trial to be held and would then present his or her
criminal defense in the county selected.

As you know, Winter Springs is located in Seminole County, Florida. So if a crime allegedly took place within the Winter Springs city limits, the state criminal case would usually be filed with the Court in Seminole County. And naturally, the person accused would defend against the allegations there, aided of course by his or her criminal defense lawyer.

Even if the person accused actually resided in another county or another state, this would likely be the case. So the Winter Springs residence of the person accused would not revelant to where the criminal case would usually be filed.

This applies to
juvenile delinquency or juvenile defense cases and to adult felony and misdemeanor criminal cases.

New York merchant Moses Levy owned hundreds of thousands of acres of Florida land before Spain ceded Florida to the United States. Levy's holdings from Spanish land grants included all of modern day Winter Springs.

In the 1880's, the trading camp at Tuscawilla Landing, on Lake Jesup in present day Winter Springs, was one of the last southern stops for St. Johns River steamboat traffic. Tuscawilla Landing was located to the east of present day Winter Springs High School and the Winter Springs City Hall, and behind the present day Winter Springs Town Center, at the end of the continuation of Tuscawilla Road past SR 434.

Present day Winter Springs was originally incorporated as North Orlando in 1959. At the time, Winter Springs had less than 600 residents. By 1972 though, the residents of the soon to be named Winter Springs were tired of the North Orlando name. And that year, the residents held a referendum which resulted in the name change to Winter Springs.

Winter Springs is the largest, by area, of the seven incorporated cities of Seminole County. And today, more than thirty three thousand residents call Winter Springs home.
