If you live in Orange City and need the help of a Central Florida
divorce lawyer or a family law attorney... We Can Help You
Divorce, child support, child custody, and other family law related cases are usually filed in the county where both parties reside. As you know, Orange City is located in Volusia County, Florida. Therefore, if you and your spouse reside in Orange City, your Orange City divorce, alimony, child custody, modification, visitation, child support, relocation, juvenile dependency, or other family law related case, would usually be filed with the Court in Volusia County.
If you reside in Orange City and the other party resides in another city located in Volusia County, like in the above examples, your Orange City family law related case would usually still be filed with the Court in Volusia County.

But if you reside in Orange City and the other party resides in a city outside Volusia County, your Orange City
divorce or other family law related case would not have to be filed with the Court in Volusia County, but could nevertheless be filed with the Court in Volusia County.

Likewise, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you and the other parent reside in Orange City, your Orange City child custody, modification, visitation, relocation, paternity, child support, juvenile dependency, or other family law related case, would usually be filed with the Court in Volusia County.

But remember, it is the county of residence not the city of residence, as noted above, which determines where a divorce or other
family law related case should be filed. And of course, for purposes of determining where a family law case should be filed, the marital status of the parties is not a relevant factor.

The first known permanent settlers in the Orange City area were Louis and Mary Ann Thursby. The Thursby's moved to the Blue Springs / Orange City area in the early 1850's after they purchased a cabin on 133 acres from a nurseryman who spent the winters with his family in the Orange City area and the rest of the year in New York.

But Orange City was not founded until 1874 when Dr. Seth French and a group of settlers from Wisconsin came to the area. Dr. French and his group purchased a few thousand acres of land in the Orange City area and established the "Wisconsin Settlement." Some years later, Dr. French was appointed Florida's first Commissioner of Immigration.

The Orange City area settlement became well established; in 1876 some of the women began a book exchange that would become the Orange City Library, in 1877 the residents organized the Orange City Methodist Church, and by 1878 Orange City had founded the first public school in Volusia County.

Shortly thereafter, Orange City was named for the thousands of acres of orange groves planted in and around the city and Orange City was incorporated in 1882. Today, Orange City has a population of over ten thousand.
