You may be seeking political asylum because you have been harmed by the government of your country or by a group the government in your country cannot control. Or perhaps you are seeking other immigration relief.

Perhaps you and your family have been in Orlando for many years and have now encountered some obstacles that may affect your legal permanent residence / green card.

Or perhaps you are seeking Temporary Protected Status to remain in Orlando because your country has an ongoing armed conflict or has been devastated by a natural disaster and it would not be safe to return right now.
You may already know that if a person who lives in Orlando needs to file a civil case, the case would likely be filed in Orange County because Orlando is located in Orange County. Likewise, if a person is accused of a crime in Orlando, the case would likely be filed in Orange County.

However, in Immigration Court there is no rule like the above regarding where your deportation case will be heard. That is because
deportation cases are heard wherever the government files the charges. Obviously, this can create serious problems.

For example, if a person who lives in Orlando is stopped for a minor infraction and the immigration authorities end up taking custody of the person, immigration can transport the person to a detention facility in Texas, California, or anywhere in the USA, and file the deportation case there.

Orlando was originally known as Jernigan after the man who established a post office in the area. Then in 1857, the name was changed to Orlando. There are different stories as to where the Orlando name came from. However, the most common story told is that Orlando was named after Orlando Reeves, a soldier killed in battle in the area in 1835.

It is said that Orlando and some others were tracking a band of native Indians in the area when one night, after the troops set up camp, Orlando, who was on guard duty, spotted something that looked like a log in one of the lakes. When Orlando realized that the log was actually an Indian stealthily approaching, Orlando alerted the others. Unfortunately for Orlando, he has struck by an arrow and died. However, Orlando's fellow soldiers were able to succesfully defend themselves.

A stone marker placed in Eola Park in 1939 honors Orlando Reeves as the man for whom the city of Orlando was named. However, there are no military records for an Orlando Reeves. So the confusion over where the Orlando name originated will likely remain.

Orlando has grown tremendously since it was incorporated in 1875. At that time, Orlando had 85 residents. Today, Orlando has over two hundred and thirty five thousand residents.
