If you reside in Longwood and need the assistance of a Seminole
County family law attorney or divorce lawyer... We Can Help You
Divorce, child custody, child support, and other family law cases are typically filed with the Court in the county in which the parties reside. Longwood is, of course, located in Seminole County, Florida. Therefore, if you are married and you and your spouse live in Longwood, your Longwood divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, visitation, relocation, modification, juvenile dependency, or other family law case, would typically be filed with the Seminole County Court.
If you reside in Longwood and the other party resides in another city located in Seminole County, like in the above examples, your Longwood family law related case would usually still be filed with the Court in Seminole County.

But if you reside in Longwood and the other party resides in a city outside Seminole County, your Longwood
divorce or other family law related case would not necessarily have to be filed with the Court in Seminole County, but could nevertheless be filed with the Court in Seminole County.

Likewise, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you and the other parent reside in Longwood, your Longwood child custody, modification, visitation, relocation, paternity, child support, juvenile dependency, or other family law related case, would usually be filed with the Court in Seminole County.

But remember, it is the county of residence not the city of residence, as noted above, which determines where a divorce or other
family law related case should be filed. And of course, for purposes of determining where a family law case should be filed, the marital status of the parties is not a relevant factor.

Longwood was named by one of its early settlers, Edward Warren Henck, who arrived in Florida by steamboat in the 1870's. Henck named Longwood after a suburb in Boston which he had previously helped plat. Interestingly, the Boston suburb of Longwood was named after the district on the island of Saint Helena where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled from 1815 to his death in 1821.

Henck was instrumental in Longwood's development. He was the first postmaster of the Longwood Post Office which was established in 1876. Henck also led the charge in the construction of the railroad that connected Sanford to Orlando and which first ran in 1880.

Henck was elected as Longwood's first mayor in 1885. His 38 room Longwood Hotel, which was constructed by Joseph Clouser, was completed in 1886. The Longwood Hotel, also known as the Longwood Village Inn, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Longwood was incorporated as a city in 1923 and today, Longwood has a population of over thirteen thousand.
